Principal's Blog for April 21
Good Afternoon Brent Kennedy Families
Today our school celebrated Earth Day which takes place every year on April 22. This year, the students from different classes presented information on what we can do to help minimize our carbon footprint as well as some historical facts which helped put things into perspective. Did you know that it takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to break down? Or that one reusable bag replaces 600 plastic bags in its lifetime? Students helped out today by cleaning up garbage from the school grounds and clearing the field of rocks, sticks and debris. In total, there were over 20 volunteers. Great job, team!
Yesterday, our school hosted a basketball game against Winlaw. It was super exciting and so nice to see the students being able to compete against each other in a friendly game. There are so many skilled players which made it so much fun to watch! Congrats to both teams on exhibiting sportsmanship and fair play.
As you are aware, we are promoting school spirit and belonging by providing each student and staff member with a Brent Kennedy t-shirt. The order goes in today so we hope to get them back within a few weeks. We are thankful to the Brent Kennedy PAC for helping to make this happen. Staff have also ordered hoodies so there will be lots of spirit all around.
New protocol alert! If you are picking up your child from the office during school hours and there is no secretary or myself in the office, please sign out your child on the clipboard with the orange sign-out information. This lets us know the child has been picked up by the right person and/or the student is not wandering around the school somewhere. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Student safety remains our number one priority.
You will also start to notice that the front flower beds of the school are being cleaned up and will be redone. We are looking to beautify our school in as many ways as possible. Special thanks to Lana Klein for taking the lead on this project. If you have some spare time and would like to help out, please contact the PAC.
Just a reminder that next week, April 26 and 27 are early dismissal days at 1:30 p.m. Buses will be running at that time as well. In addition, class photos will be taken on the morning of April 26 so please mark that information on your calendars.
It looks like the warm weather is on its way! Enjoy your weekend!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kooznetsoff
