Principal's Blog for January 15
Good Evening BK Families,
Brrrrrr!! It would seem that winter has arrived! Last week, we held the students in the school as it was too cold for them to be outside. Just for your information, our threshold for bringing students into the school is -20 degrees (including wind chill). This week is looking warmer, so please plan for your children to be outside. Ensure they are wearing layers and have extra mittens or socks that will keep their hands and little feet warm. Some families send their children with those little warm packs that you can put in your mittens or in your boots.
The field continues to be off-limits until the septic work is done. The students have access to the red playground, blue playground, forest and around the school to play.
As an important safety reminder, after school all bus students need to be at the front of the school. They are not permitted to wait on the basketball court or in the parent parking lot. As supervisors, we need to be aware of where all students at all times until they are in your care. Students are to come to the covered area and wait in their bus lines. Once buses arrive, students are released one bus line at a time and they are to walk to the buses. Please reinforce these expectations with your child.
This week, our winter activities continue, with Mrs. Marken and Ms. Radridge’s classes skating as well as Ms. Podovelnikoff and Ms. Christie’s classes. Be sure to dress warm!
If you are picking up your child for an appointment, please make sure that you come to the office for pick-up. That way, we can enter their departure into our system and know they are accounted for.
If students need temporary bus passes, these are to be done in the morning before recess, not when their bus has arrived and they are waiting for them. Buses are on a fairly tight schedule, so your child needs to be prepared with their temporary pass in advance. If your child loses their bus pass, kindly let Michele know at the office and she will order you a new one. Thank you all for your cooperation.
This Friday is Twin Day! Our student leadership team has been preparing posters for our upcoming school spirit day. Your child can dress the same as another student or even a group of students. Anything goes! Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately and if unsure, has consulted with myself or classroom teacher.
Enjoy the week and stay warm!
