Good Morning Brent Kennedy Families!

<p>Description automatically generatedYesterday you will have noticed orange fencing going up around the side of the school near the red playground and the AB ED/Art Therapy portable.  Crews will be digging as part of the repair for the septic system.  We ask all students to stay away from this area both during school hours as well as morning and afternoon.  We will keep you posted on any further developments.

A big thank you to our student leaders who lead the Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday.  Students took turns reading facts about the war, In Flander’s Field, personal poems and a story called “What is Peace?”

A few friendly reminders:

  1. Poinsettia and Purdy’s chocolate orders are due this Friday, November 17!  Please contact the PAC if you have any questions.
  2. Early dismissal days today and tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.  These days allow for teachers to connect with families regarding their child’s progress at this point in the year.

So far, our breakfast program is going well.  Students come in to the gym for a quick breakfast between 8:15 and 8:35 a.m.  Thank you to the PAC and school staff for helping to get this set up every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

From Ms. Solomon’s class:

My class is doing a Sock Drive from now until December 12. Hoping that families could bring a new pair of socks to the concert if they would like to contribute to the Sock Drive.

The students are making posters for the school and will be going around to all of the classes to explain what and why we're doing this. We read a news article last week about a woman in Halifax, "Queen of the Socks," and the students learned about the how hard it is for homeless people to keep their feet warm and dry and the consequences of not being able to. Our goal is to collect 75 pairs of new adult socks by December 12 to donate to local homeless shelters. We are making a box that we'll have outside the office. Students are welcome to drop off socks over the next month in the box at the office. My class will be working on small messages of positivity and hope to put inside each pair of socks.

Winter Gear Donations for W.E. Graham, from PAC:

WE Graham’s PAC is holding a winter gear sale at the end of the month.

I’ve been asked by one of our parents if they can donate items that can then be picked up and brought to Slocan. WEG’s PAC will sell these items as part of their fundraiser.

I think it’s a great idea to be able to support other schools and Valley families.  We will place a box for donations at the office / entry area. Someone from Slocan can pick up before their event.  The box will be put up on Friday.

Our student leadership team meets every Wednesday at lunch.  Today we are preparing for our first school spirit day, Pajama Day, this Friday, November 17.  Students will go around to classes and share information with students.

Message from the office:  If you are entering an absence for your child online, please be sure to include the child’s surname.  We have multiple children in the school with the same name and oftentimes the parent’s email does not help indicate which child it is.  Thank you in advance!

Wishing you all a wonderful week!  Stay warm!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Kooznetsoff, Principal
