Good Afternoon BK Families!

I would just like to start with immense gratitude to Crystal Robinson and those who helped with the Book Fair.  Our school community spent approximately $5600 on books, which means we get 50% back, or approximately $2500 in new books for our library.  Thank you to all families who supported this initiative!

You will soon be receiving our next fundraising brochure for Christmas poinsettias and Purdy’s Chocolates.  A big thanks in advance to our amazing PAC for organizing this rather large endeavour!

<p>Description automatically generatedThe School Leadership team has begun their duties within the school.  Today our office helpers were trained (and supervised by an adult).  We had our first meeting last week which went very well.  The students have some great ideas about events they would like to host in the school.  This coming Friday, during teacher collaboration time, all students will be in the gym, with their student leaders, and we will have a “get to know you activity”, which will be something very simple.  The student leadership consists of approximately 20 intermediate grade 5/6 students who meet every Wednesday at long recess.

A reminder for Halloween next Tuesday:

All costumes must:

  • Be respectful of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, physical or mental ability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression
  • Cover the body appropriately
  • Not include guns, knives, or other weapons (including play weapons)
  • Not include blood and gore
  • Not advertise or promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, pornography, or intimidation
  • No inappropriate or scary masks.  Teachers may ask that masks be removed during instructional time.

In addition, all behavior while in costume must be aligned with the school’s Code of Conduct. If you are not sure your costume meets the above criteria, please speak with your classroom teacher, or me, ahead of time.

Please, please ensure you have paid your child’s school fees.  This money is used to purchase supplies for your child this year.  Any supplies not used will be sent home at the end of the year.  If you are experiencing hardship, please contact me directly.

This week, Grade 4 students have started FSAs.  This testing will continue into the month of November.

If you would like to volunteer in our school, you are required to fill out the Volunteer Package which will be sent out via email.  The first page is for me, the principal, to complete.  Parents complete the following two pages.  Please note that all applications require a current criminal record check to be completed, or attached with the application.  Parents will not be able to volunteer without a criminal record check.  Please complete the application and bring it to the office in person, or scan and email it to myself.

As the weather is changing, we would kindly ask that your child dress in layers and have an extra set of clothes.  We also have several items in our LOST AND FOUND, so please pop in and take a look when you have a moment.

I think that’s all for now.  Wishing you all a wonderful week!
