Parent and Family Weekly Update 

April 22-26 2024

Hello all Brent Kennedy parents, families and caregivers,

We are heading into the last week of April and things are bustling at BKE! It is a short week for students, as teachers and support staff engage in Professional Development learning on April 22^nd. 

The Grade 5/6 basketball team hosted Trafalgar Middle School last week, in a game that brought about so much excitement and school spirit! Big thanks to Mr. McRann for coaching our intermediate basketball players!

With sport and art programs happening around the school, which supplement the academic learning in classrooms, students are kept busy in programming to engage their minds and bodies in a variety of ways. 

Announcements for parents and students are below, as well as information around upcoming dates. 

Announcements for Parents 

• School Volunteer Package and Information
  • All school Volunteer information and paperwork is now accessible on the school website : Volunteer Application Information
• Informal Reporting period.
  • Each classroom teacher will conduct an informal reporting at the end of April.
  • Each classroom teacher will communicate with families directly about the structure of their conferences and how to sign up (if applicable).
  • Some teachers have decided to conduct their informal reporting on the early dismissal days, others are planning for an alternate day at the end of the month.
• After School Supervision à We provide supervision for bus students at the front entrance of the school under the covered area. Students who are not waiting for the bus or a ride home are to please leave school property when the bell rings. Our supervision is only for the entrance bussing area.
• Please be sure to call or email the school office to report and absence or late arrival of a student.
• Bussing registration for next year is OPEN. Please register before June 15^th. 

Announcements for Students 

• Reminder to keep rocks and pinecones etc. on the ground – they are not to be thrown please. This is to keep all the children safe. 
• The forest area is off limits to students before and after school. 
• Students who take the bus after school are to please remain in the front of the school to wait for their bus. Students who remain after departure of the Lizard and Panda busses will be taken to the playground or gym to wait for the late busses. 

This Week and Coming Up:

April 24 and 25 : Early Dismissal Days (1 hour early)- Busses also arrive 1 hour early. 

April 26 : Class Photo Day! Please dress for the weather. Group photos will be taken outside.

April 30: BKE vs WES Basketball Game@ 11:00 (at WES)

End of April : Informal Reporting – see note above regarding structure. 

May 10: BKE vs WES Basketball Game @ 11:20

May 16: Talent Show @ 1:00 in the gym
