Parent and Family Weekly Update

A big thank-you to our PAC for the delicious hot lunch this week and for organizing Popcorn Day today!

 

Friday was full of celebrations with our February Celebration Assembly, where we recognized February birthdays and honored our Brent Kennedy PATH winners for the month. We continue to focus on the “A” in BK PATH – Accountability. Students have been exploring what it means to be accountable through stories and thoughtful discussions and learning how this value supports positive interactions at school and at home.

 

Over the next three weeks leading into March Break, students will be wrapping up their winter activities.

 

Thank you to all of our families for your continued support and partnership as we work together to create positive, well-rounded experiences for our kids.

 

Announcements for Parents:

School Water

Please note that the school will now be using exclusively tap and fountain water. With the DNC water order lifted, our bottled water service will be discontinued. 

 

School Entry Protocol for Visitors

  • Please enter the school through the main doors only. 

  • All visitors must sign in at the office with their name, purpose for the visit and time of arrival. 

  • Please do not walk directly into the school or into a classroom. Please wait at the office for someone to assist you. 

  • There will soon be visitor tags at the office that each visitor will be required to wear for the duration of their visit, after they have signed in at the office. 

  • When visitors leave the school, they are to return their visitor tag and sign out with the time that they leave the school.

Student Learning Survey 

The student learning survey comes out every year from the Ministry of Education for students in grades 4,7,10,11 and 12.

There is a separate survey for parents that you can accessed by clicking the PARENT button at the above link. There is no password for the Parent Survey. 

 

Announcements for Students:

  • Grade 5/6 Basketball Team Practice Tuesday and Thursday at long recess
  • Chess club for all on Tuesday at recess
  • Intermediate Hockey on Monday and Wednesday’s at recess

  • Grade 2,3,4 Soccer on Friday’s at recess

     

Still Out There: 

Cold Weather Gear

  • Please ensure that your child comes to school with clothing appropriate for the rainy, wet and cold weather. This includes boots, coats, hats and gloves. Please the school know if you need assistance in providing this clothing for your child at school. We are happy to help. 

SD8 Code of Conduct for Bus Students 

 

Contacting the office : Please be as detailed as possible with notes, emails and office phone calls and include: 

  • Students First and Last name

    • Homeroom teacher
    • Name of bus route (if applicable) 
    • Any other details pertaining to your question or request. THANK YOU!
    • If you have arranged an alternate pickup arrangement for the day, please let your child’s teacher know. 

     

  • Visitor Sign In Sheet: There is a visitor sign in sheet at the main office. Please be sure to use the sign in sheet to check in and check out when visiting the school and indicate the purpose of your visit. This is to ensure that we know who is in the school at all times, in case of emergency or evacuation. Thank you!!

  • The SD8 Student Accident Insurance webpage for families can be found here. To find this, go to the Students and Families page on the SD8 website.

  

  • Reaching the Principal: For urgent or time sensitive matters, please call the school office to arrange a phone call or appointment. Due to the high volume of emails received each day, email is welcome for non-urgent matters, and I will aim to reply within 3 business days.

 

  • Parent Volunteer Information : Parent Volunteer Information Page
    • AP 2303 : Volunteers
    • If you are attending class trips or are a parent volunteer in another capacity within the school, please complete the requirements found on the website and turn forms into the school office. Thank you! (Forms must be completed in full, to have the application accepted).
    • All Parent Volunteer Packages and Criminal Record Checks (CRC) must be completed ANNUALLY.
    • If you volunteer at two schools, only one Application and CRC needs to be completed for both.
