Parent and Family Weekly Update 

June 15-19 2026

We’ve officially entered the last full week of the school year. It's hard to believe how quickly time flies when we’re having fun!

Featured in this week's newsletter is a photo of a few grade 3 special helpers ready for recess! There are many exciting upcoming events over the next week and a half. Please see details below. 

Information regarding September startup will be shared with families during the first week of July.

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, please take note of the important upcoming dates listed below. With many upcoming end of year trips and outings, please remind your child of the school and district field trip expectations, outlined below. We are always open to parent volunteers to accompanying their child’s class on field trip! If you can volunteer, please email your child’s teacher.

Field Trip Expectations

Please review these expectations with your child before a school field trip:

• Follow the directions of school staff and adult supervisors at all times. 
• Treat others with kindness, respect, and inclusion. 
• Use appropriate language and respectful behaviour. 
• Stay with the assigned group and within designated boundaries. 
• Demonstrate safe behaviour and make responsible choices. 
• Respect the environment, facilities, equipment, and property we visit. 
• Represent our school positively by showing good citizenship and sportsmanship. 
• Report concerns, problems, or unsafe situations to an adult right away. 

Students who are unable to follow these expectations may be required to miss future field trips or have additional supports put in place to ensure a safe and successful experience.

Bringing Toys to School

Please remind our child to keep their home toys at home. These include the ever-popular squishy toys, cars, stuffies and any other toys that they may have at home. We make an effort to keep home toys for home and school toys for school. Thanks for your help with this! 

Plans for next year 

As we are in the process of planning for September 2026, please let us know if your child will be transferring to another school or not returning in the fall. 

Mural Project – Summer 2026

Two school murals have been approved for installation during the summer months (July/August 2026). The murals have been designed by a local artist and parent of Brent Kennedy. 

• The first mural will depict an artistic representation of the “BK PATH”, which has been a school culture focus for us this year. As, you may have read in previous newsletters or heard from your child, the BK PATH stands for : Peacefulness, Accountability, Thoughtfulness and Humility. This mural will also include a student participation component to be completed in September 2026.
• The second mural will be a colorful representative of Brent Kennedy, which will include local wildlife. 

The artist will be delivering a presentation to all students at the May Celebration assembly in advance of the mural installation over the summer. 

After School Plans

• Please make after school plans with your child prior to them leaving for school so that they know where they are going at dismissal.  This may include play dates, extracurricular activities and alternative pick up arrangements. 

• Avoiding last minute changes after the start of the school day ensures student safety by avoiding the risk of confusion, missed communication, and unsafe situations.

• Grade 5/6 Basketball Team Practice Tuesday and Thursday at long recess
• Intermediate Hockey on Monday and Wednesday’s at recess
• Grade 2,3,4 Soccer on Friday’s at recess

A friendly reminder for students to attend school in appropriate dress that is not obscene and does not promote alcohol or drugs. Thank you!
