Parent and Family Weekly Update 

May 5 - 9 2025

 

Today was a fun day at the school with a Basketball game and popcorn! Thanks to Winlaw Elementary Schools basketball team for coming to Brent Kennedy to play our grade 5/6 basketball team! Thanks also to Mr. McRann for coaching our grade 5/6 basketball players and to the Brent Kennedy PAC for providing popcorn! Brent Kennedy’s team will be travelling to Winlaw for a game on May 16th.

 

Our swimming lessons start next week for those classes who are partaking. Thank you to parents for returning the school permission forms and the RDCK swim forms so promptly. We have many upcoming field trips and performances coming up throughout the months of May and June, including a presentation from the Mt Sentinel School Grade 7/8 band and a Presentation from Science World called “Fantastic Forces”.  

 

Announcements for Parents

  • Please return forms for swimming (Permission form AND RDCK form) if you child’s class is swimming! Forms are now overdue. Please turn into the office ASAP.
  • The SD8 Pow Wow is coming up on Friday May 16 in Creston at Kootenay Rivers Secondary School. All families are welcome to attend. If you choose to take your child to the Pow Wow in Creston, their attendance will be excused that day. Please contact Camryn Blunt for more information at camyn.blunt@sd8.bc.ca
  • The PAC AGM will take place on June 9. There will be an election for the executive for next year. If you are interested in serving on the PAC executive, or have any questions please email : pacbrentkennedy@gmail.com

  • Beading club every Wednesday at lunch recess with Ms. Camryn in the portable for intermediate students. 

  • Basketball Tuesday – Thursday long recess (Intermediate)

  • Friday soccer long recess (Primary)

  • Remember to get your bus pass before the end of the day! 

Still Out There: 

  • Parking : When you pick up your child from school, please be sure to park safely in a designated parking spot either at the front or the side of the school in the side parking lot. Please do not block the entry ways into the parking lot or leave your vehicle idle while your child runs through the parking lot/driveway area. This is to ensure the safety of both vehicles and the children who are running out into the parking areas for pickup. Thank you so much!!

  • Visitor Sign In Sheet: There is a visitor sign in sheet at the main office. Please be sure to use the sign in sheet to check in and check out when visiting the school and indicate the purpose of your visit. This is to ensure that we know who is in the school at all times, in case of emergency or evacuation. Thank you!!
  • Kindergarten Registration is now open! New students can submit their registration documents to the office : Registration and Transfer
  • Parent Volunteer Information : Parent Volunteer Information Page
    • AP 2303 : Volunteers
    • If you are attending class trips or are a parent volunteer in another capacity within the school, please complete the requirements found on the website and turn forms into the school office. Thank you! (Forms must be completed in full, to have the application accepted).
    • All Parent Volunteer Packages and Criminal Record Checks (CRC) must be completed ANNUALLY.
    • If you volunteer at two schools, only one Application and CRC needs to be completed for both.
  • When you contact the School office via phone or email, or send a note with your child, please be as detailed as possible and include:
    • Students First and Last name
    • Homeroom teacher
    • Name of bus route (if applicable)
    • Any other details pertaining to your question or request. THANK YOU!
    • If you have arranged an alternate pickup arrangement for the day, please let your child’s teacher know.
  • Please remind your child to keep their cell phone or other device either at home or zipped up in their backpack for the duration of the school day. Please see the bottom of page 2/ top of page 3 of the Brent Kennedy Elementary School Code of Conduct for more information on cell phones at school.
