Parent and Family Weekly Update 

September 23 – 27 2024

The month of September is flying by! We’ve got some class outings happening this coming week as well as the annual Terry Fox Run. 

Big thanks to Mr. McRann and his grade 6 class for organizing the Terry Fox Run! We will have a school wide assembly before we head out on the run, to pay respect to this great Canadian hero. Students can bring their donations to their classroom teacher, for the Terry Fox Foundation. 

We are now collecting nonperishable food donations for the Nelson Community Food Center! If you are so inclined, please bring your donations to the office. We have a lovely decorated “Food Bank” Box to collect your food donations! You can check out the Nelson Food Center website for their Top 10 Most Wanted food items : https://nelsoncfc.ca/donate-food/

Thank you to parents for getting your student forms turned in and for your student fee payment! Please see below if you have yet to return your forms or pay the student fee.

  • AP 2303 : Volunteers
  • If you are attending class trips or are a parent volunteer in another capacity, please complete the requirements found on the website and turn forms into the school office. Thank you! (Forms must be completed in full in order to have the application accepted).
  • All Parent Volunteer Packages and Criminal Record Checks (CRC) must be completed ANNUALLY.
  • If you volunteer at two schools, only one Application and CRC needs to be completed for both. 

Announcements for Students

• Please do not touch the pink tape on the trees in the forest.

• When in the forest for recess, please remain in the RED DOT boundaries. 

• Students are to remain outside at the beginning of the day until the bell rings. Playground areas and front of the school is open for students before the morning bell.

• Line up at your classroom door and your teacher will bring you inside the school, to change shoes, hang backpack etc. 

• Please get a GOLDEN TICKET from your teacher if you need to visit the office area for any reason. Students without Golden Ticket will be sent back to class. 

• Remember to get your bus pass before the end of the day! 

• ASSAI Students – Please meet in Ms. Long’s classroom at 2:35 dismissal.

• As a student of Brent Kennedy Elementary School, always remember to be kind, helpful and respectful to others, to your school environment and to yourself! 

Still Out There: 

• Reminder to parents to please pack a healthy lunch and snack for your child as well as a water bottle. 
• Student fees are $40 per student and can be paid online at: https://bkes.sd8.bc.ca/pay or in person at the office. Online is preferred. 
• Student forms went home with students and are now overdue. Please turn into office if you haven’t yet. 
• Student Accident Optional Insurance coverage 
  
  • Did you know . . .As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for expenses for student injuries that happen on school grounds or during school activities?

• When you contact the School office via phone or email, or send a note with your child, please be as detailed as possible and include: 
  
  • Students First and Last name
  • Homeroom teacher
  • Name of bus route (if applicable) 
  • Another other details pertaining to your question or request. THANK YOU!
  • If you have arranged an alternate pickup arrangement for the day, please let your child’s teacher know. 
• Please remind your child to keep their cell phone or other device either at home or zipped up in their backpack for the duration of the school day. Please see the bottom of page 2/ top of page 3 of the Brent Kennedy Elementary School Code of Conduct for more information on cell phones at school.
