Parent and Family Weekly Update 

September 30-October 4 2024

September is wrapping up and as I find myself reflecting back on the whirlwind of the first month of the school year, I would like to express my gratitude to all the students, staff and families of Brent Kennedy Elementary School. I feel so much hope and joy about all the beautiful moments of learning and connection that are had throughout our days here at school. 

On October 16, all classrooms will be hosting parent open house events! Your child’s teacher will reach out to you directly in the coming weeks with an invitation and details of this event. School dismissal will be at 1:35 pm on October 16^th and October 17^th. On October 17^th, teachers will be in contact with families who were not able to attend their parent event on the 16^th.

Announcements for Students

• Grade 5 and 6 Students interested in school leadership, please meet in the library on Tuesday at lunch recess. 

• When in the forest for recess, please remain in the RED DOT boundaries. 

• Please get a GOLDEN TICKET from your teacher if you need to visit the office area for any reason. Students without Golden Ticket will be sent back to class. 

• Remember to get your bus pass before the end of the day! 

Still Out There: 

• We are collecting nonperishable food donations for the Nelson Community Food Center! You can bring your donations to the office.

  • AP 2303 : Volunteers
  • If you are attending class trips or are a parent volunteer in another capacity, please complete the requirements found on the website and turn forms into the school office. Thank you! (Forms must be completed in full in order to have the application accepted).
  • All Parent Volunteer Packages and Criminal Record Checks (CRC) must be completed ANNUALLY.
  • If you volunteer at two schools, only one Application and CRC needs to be completed for both. 
• Reminder to parents to please pack a healthy lunch and snack for your child as well as a water bottle. 
• Student fees are $40 per student and can be paid online at: https://bkes.sd8.bc.ca/pay or in person at the office. Online is preferred. 
• Student forms went home with students and are now overdue. Please turn into office if you haven’t yet. 
• Student Accident Optional Insurance coverage 
  
  • Did you know . . .As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for expenses for student injuries that happen on school grounds or during school activities?

• When you contact the School office via phone or email, or send a note with your child, please be as detailed as possible and include: 
  
  • Students First and Last name
  • Homeroom teacher
  • Name of bus route (if applicable)

  • If you have arranged an alternate pickup arrangement for the day, please let your child’s teacher know. 
• Please remind your child to keep their cell phone or other device either at home or zipped up in their backpack for the duration of the school day. Please see the bottom of page 2/ top of page 3 of the Brent Kennedy Elementary School Code of Conduct for more information on cell phones at school.
