Parent and Family Weekly Update 

September 8-12 2025

The first week back to school is a big and exciting one! Our students are doing an excellent job transitioning to their new classroom environments and I am proud of them for the positive connections that they are making in their classrooms and with their new classmates. 

At Brent Kennedy we work to foster the values of respect, resiliency, responsibility and kindness. Students are already working hard at practicing these values throughout their days at school both in the classroom and on the playground. 

A big thank you to all of our parents and families for their teamwork and support as we settle into a new school year. 

Our first Celebration Assembly of the school year will be on September 12 in the gym. At this assembly we will acknowledge September birthdays and also recognize those individuals who contributed to the planning, development and installation of our new playground. 

There are quite a few announcements for parents this week, so please read through. 

Announcements for Parents:

• Student form packages and student verification forms have been sent home. Please sign and return the forms to your child’s classroom teacher and ensure that all information on the student verification form is correct. 

   

• STUDENT FEES are $45. Please pay online @ https://bkes.sd8.bc.ca/pay

   

• The SD8 Student Accident Insurance webpage for families can be found here. To find this, go to the Students and Families page on the SD8 website.  

• Reaching the Principal: For urgent or time sensitive matters, please call the school office to arrange a phone call or appointment. Due to the high volume of emails received each day, email is welcome for non-urgent matters, and I will aim to reply within 3 business days. 

• Please ensure that you and your child are aware of the School Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct guides the expectations for students at school as well as consequences for violations of the code of conduct. 

• Brent Kennedy’s Merch Store is Open for Business! If you missed out last time, be sure to check out the Brent Kennedy online store to purchase your BKE gear for the new school year! CLICK HERE

There is an option at check out to add a donation to purchase clothing for a student who may not be able to do so. Online ordering is open September 8 – October 10. 

All orders will be delivered to the school and distributed to students. Thanks for supporting Brent Kennedy!

  • AP 2303 : Volunteers
  • If you are attending class trips or are a parent volunteer in another capacity within the school, please complete the requirements found on the website and turn forms into the school office. Thank you! (Forms must be completed in full, to have the application accepted).
  • All Parent Volunteer Packages and Criminal Record Checks (CRC) must be completed ANNUALLY.

  • If you volunteer at two schools, only one Application and CRC needs to be completed for both.

     

• When you contact the School office via phone or email, or send a note with your child, please be as detailed as possible and include:
  
  • Students First and Last name
  • Homeroom teacher
  • Name of bus route (if applicable)
  • Any other details pertaining to your question or request. THANK YOU!

  • If you have arranged an alternate pickup arrangement for the day, please let your child’s teacher know. 

     

• Visitor Sign In Sheet: There is a visitor sign in sheet at the main office. Please be sure to use the sign in sheet to check in and check out when visiting the school and indicate the purpose of your visit. This is to ensure that we know who is in the school at all times, in case of emergency or evacuation. Thank you!!

Welcome the New Brent Kennedy Staff members

Sarah Wood will be sharing a classroom with Ms. Marken, teaching Kindergarten on Tuesdays. 

Catherine Spencer will be teaching prep classes, including some of the PE. 

Crystal Robinson will be teaching in the Library and will also be sharing a classroom with Mrs. Johnson.

Jenna Hopper will be our AbEd. teacher this year.
