Parent and Family Weekly Update 

SCHOOL START UP AND WELCOME BACK! 

September 3 -6 2024

 

Welcome back to all our Brent Kennedy children and families, and a very warm welcome to those who are new to Brent Kennedy Elementary this year! Please read through the following announcements for parents and students pertaining to school startup.

Announcements for Parents

Please note the new Bell Schedule for the 2024/2025 school year: 

  • 8:35 – Start of Day
  • 10:20-10:40 – Morning Recess
  • 12:20-1:00 – Lunch Recess
  • 2:35 – Dismissal

Supervision will be from 8:00 am to 8:35 in the morning and from 2:35-2:50 in the afternoon. ASSAI Program will run from 2:35-3:35 for late bus students. 

 

 

First Day of School : September 3 2024

  • Students will return to their previous homeroom class on the first day of school. For example, if your child was in Mrs. Marken’s class last year, they will line up and go to Mrs. Marken’s class on the first day. 
  • NEW STUDENTS: Please meet outside the main entrance on September 3 and we will bring you to your classroom for the day.
  • Dismissal will be 3 hours early at 11:35. 
  • Kindergarten will begin on Wednesday September 4 and Thursday September 5 with family meetings and CHEQ Survey.

September 4 2024

  • Students will go back to their previous homeroom class for morning attendance. 
  • NEW STUDENTS: Please return to the classroom you were in on the first day of school. 
  • Teachers will bring students to their new classroom to meet their new teacher. 
  • Regular dismissal at 2:35pm.

Please Note: Class lists may be in flux for the first 2 weeks of school due to late registrations and/or withdrawals. Please allow for flexibility within these first 2 weeks for some potential adjustments to class placements. 

 

Please Review the Brent Kennedy Elementary School Code of Conduct with your child. 

 

  • NEW Program ! 

Starting in September, Brent Kennedy will be running an After School Sport and Art Initiative (ASSAI) Program for those students who take the four late busses arriving after 2:45 pm. These busses are : Panda, Eagle, Late Lizard and Late Elephant.

 

ASSAI Program Information

 

The Program will begin at 2:35 dismissal and will run until 3:35 or until the last bus arrives for pickup. 

 

All students who ride these four late buses will take part in this after-school programming. The program will provide these students with an opportunity to engage in a variety of art and sport programming between the school bell and their bus arrival. Topics of the program will vary throughout the year. There will be a variety of offerings including painting, drawing, art classes, as well as sport and game programs both inside and outside and will be planned in accordance with weather and seasonal changes.

Announcements for Students

 

  • Students are to remain outside at the beginning of the day until the bell rings. 
  • Line up at your classroom door and your teacher will bring you inside the school, to change shoes, hang backpack etc. 
  • Please get a GOLDEN TICKET from your teacher if you need to visit the office area for any reason. Students without Golden Ticket will be sent back to class. 
  • Remember to get your bus pass before the end of the day! 
  • ASSAI Students – Please meet in Ms. Long’s classroom at 2:35 dismissal. 
  • Review the Student Code of Conduct with your parents! Brent Kennedy Student Code of Conduct
  • As a student of Brent Kennedy Elementary School, always remember to be kind, helpful and respectful to others, to your school environment and to yourself! 

 

This Week and Coming Up:

September 3: First Day of School (early dismissal) See above. No kindergarten. 

September 4 and 5: Kindergarten Family meetings and CHEQ Survey completion

September 6 : Welcome Back and Celebration Assembly for Students 

September 20 : School Planning Day – CLASSES NOT IN SESSION for students 

Going forward, I will email parents near the beginning of each week, with a link to the Principal’s Weekly Update Newsletter, which will be accessible under the “Blog” section of the school website. Included in that email will also be an attachment for the School District 8’s Parent Weekly Bulletin. Please be sure to read the weekly newsletters, as they contain news and information for students and families.
